FEATHERBED NATURE RESERVE

Western Head, Knysna
 NATURE

The Featherbed Nature Reserve is located on the Western Head in Knysna. This pristine piece of protected land is a South African Heritage Site (No. 59) and was granted this status in 1985. Access to the reserve is by ferry only. Visitors can join one of the 4-hour excursions to Featherbed. The tour includes the return ferry, a 4x4 drive onto the reserve, stopping at magnificent views en-route and an optional 2.2km guided walk through coastal fynbos and forest, venturing onto cliffs and into historic caves. To end a perfect outing, enjoy a buffet lunch at the lagoon-side restaurant.

Featherbed is a wonderful example of Eco-tourism in practice, where access is controlled and the income generated from visitors is used to protect the splendour of the natural beauty of the reserve. Featherbed is also home to a successful breeding programme of the blue duiker, one of Africa's smallest antelope species.

Excursion: R300 (adults), R130 (children 11-15yrs), R80 (4-10yrs)
