SOUTH AFRICAN JEWISH MUSEUM

88 Hatfield Street, Gardens
 MUSEUM

The SA Jewish Museum is a dynamic, high-tech repository of stories of South Africa’s Jewish community, recording their contribution to the history and well-being of Cape Town and South Africa as a whole. The museum serves as testimony to the pioneering spirit of the Jewish immigrants who settled here, within the context of South Africa’s history. DVD presentations, plasma displays and interactive touch screens make this one of the most technically advanced museums in the world.

An exclusive documentary film on Nelson Mandela is screened daily. The museum also houses a reconstructed shtetl, a Lithuanian village, comprising schoolroom, shops, small house and the village well. Computers in the Discovery Centre enable visitors to further explore their European origins. A special section on family trees is also accessible. The museum also features a new permanent gallery housing the exhibition, “Hidden Treasures of Japanese Art: The Isaac Kaplan Collection”.
